Welcome to Maladaptive Daydreamers by Jayne Rachael

In the video above, I explain how as a child (pre-Internet), I was obsessed with finding another daydreamer like me. Unfortunately no one, not even doctors or mental health providers, knew what I was talking about. I was frequently told that there was no such thing as too much daydreaming or a daydreaming disorder.

Later, I had my doctor write me up as a case study and went back to school to study psychology. I did my Master Thesis on MDD and published the first large scale study showing that MDD could be disorder. I later joined forces with Dr. Eli Somer, the world’s leading researcher on MDD who coined the term. I am now working to raise awareness and hope that Maladaptive Daydreaming will one day be recognized as an official disorder.

Although there are now many wonderful channels and chatrooms devoted to Maladaptive Daydreaming, I am hoping that this one can fill a need by bringing researchers and community members together to discuss it. I am also hoping to cover common issues that affect those with MDD, like dating and parenting with MDD as well as how to parent a child with MDD. I would love to cover whatever community members want to hear and would love to hear your stories.
